Over a fresh, sensual groove and a chill ambient flow, the emerging, Long Island bred, L.A. based singer/songwriter sings: “The feeling so strong/It’s taking me home/It’s hard to move on/This is where I belong…” It’s a beautiful, romantic declaration of passion, but beyond that, in a larger sense, it’s the Mikey’s declaration to the world that he’s overcome his painful youth, come to terms with his personal identity and embraced his destiny as a multi-faceted artist committed to helping and healing others with music and humanitarian endeavors.

“The title says it all,” explains the 20 year old singer, who has no need to wait to establish himself in the industry to be an “out” and proud gay man. “This is where I belong, making music, trying to help my community and the world. I’m here to heal and comfort people through my songs and performances, and make sure that no one out there, and especially no kids growing up in this generation, ever feel like I felt. My artistry is the foundation of my mission to help and encourage everyone who has struggled with their identity and been bullied for simply being who they are.”

In fellow emerging artist, songwriter and producer Glenn Travis, Mikey found the perfect right hand man in the studio to create the EP’s deep grooving, richly textured and atmospheric sonic magic. The hypnotic beats throughout were created by Mantra, whose resume includes Rihanna, Sean Kingston, Future and Pitbull.

While offering mere glimpses of the diverse, multi-talented artist he is developing into, the four tracks on Mikey’s EP showcase several important aspects of his personality. There’s his freewheeling ability to get sexy, a little nasty and have a fun time while also expressing deep self-confidence (“Love My Body”). He balances that with “Don’t Wait,” an epic post breakup ballad (incredibly, the first song he ever wrote) that casts his line as an insightful, powerhouse songwriting voice for his generation. Though his former lover has moved on, Mikey pointedly wants both to be aware that “I was right there/Through the struggle, the pain/I will not be forgotten/I will always be there for you/The clock is always ticking, so don’t wait…” The final track is the unabashedly romantic “In Your Arms,” which Mikey explains as “a song about someone that you care about so much that you just want to be warm and close to them.” Mikey recently shot promotional videos for “Love My Body” and “Don’t Wait” at locations throughout his new home of Los Angeles.

All of the buzz and activity surrounding Mikey’s emergence as an indie artist seemed a long way off when the bullying started back in grade school. It was hard to see an eventual blessing coming from being a short kid struggling with his sexual identity growing up on Long Island. Sensing there was something different about a boy whose closest friends were girls, the kids tormented him so severely that he often wound up eating lunch with the school principal or school nurse. By sixth grade, it had gotten so bad that he began being home schooled – and every time he made the determination to return to regular school at the beginning of the year in September, he was met with teasing words that made him want to hightail it right back home.

Music was Mikey’s salvation, the way to deal with the pain of his social phobia and struggles with his perceived shortcomings. While he was a fan of great male artists like Michael Buble and Michael Jackson, he was really all about the divas – some from his generation (Britney and Beyonce) and others from his parents’ (Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston). He would dance with his younger sister and best friend Juju and starting at the age of 12, would sing on the patio deck in the backyard and out in the shed (“great acoustics”) when he thought no one was watching.

When his parents caught him singing “I Will Always Love You,” they knew their son had a great musical gift and have done everything to encourage his talents and dreams. After the painful breakup that inspired Mikey, in a hotel room on a trip to Jersey, to pour out the music and lyrics to “”Don’t Wait” in 30 minutes
